Illinois working on the being the 10th State for same sex marriage

Pat Quinn: Gay Marriage Approval ‘Very Close’ In Illinois

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, a Democrat, on Monday told reporters that a gay marriage bill is “very close” to passage in the state House.

The bill, which seeks to make Illinois the 10th state to legalize such unions, awaits a vote in the House after passage in the Senate.

Passage in the House requires 60 votes. Quinn did not announce a vote count, but he said “we’re going to get it done.” He added that he’s reached out to legislators to support the measure.

Lawmakers returned to Springfield on Monday after a two-week break.

On Sunday, Rep. Ed Sullivan Jr. became the second Republican after Rep. Ron Sandack to endorse the measure.

Sullivan, who previously opposed civil unions, told the Chicago Tribunethat his mother-in-law is gay.

“The first reaction from people might be, ‘Well he might be voting for that just because of his mother-in-law,’” Sullivan said. “The reality is, because my mother-in-law is gay, I have more of an understanding and familiarity with same-sex couples.”

what would a phobe be without a homo to lead the way?

sf arch anti-equality avatar

During last month’s Supreme Court hearings on Prop 8 and DOMA, the Archdiocese of San Francisco deicide to get cute and changed their Facebook avatar to a division symbol with a scriptural reference beneath. It was meant to mock the HRC’s red campaign, which is sort of ironic given recent events, thank you Karin Quimby.

Nonetheless, Marriage equality advocates responded with outrage, and rightfully so. After all, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone has been outspoken – to put it mildly – in his opposition to same-sex marriage. He was among those who spoke at NOM’s March For Marriage rally on March 26.

By the way, everyone does know about Cordileone being arrested for drunk driving in August, 2012, allegedly with an unnamed male companion who fled the scene?

Anyway, as per KQED, it seems that the Archdiocese of San Francisco has a “social media” expert named Edison Tapalla, and they write it was Edison who designed the avatar, and ignited the controversy.

Let’s meet Edison, shall we?  [edison%2520tapalla%255B3%255D.jpg]

This is Edison Tapalla, Social Media Content Manager for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco.

Uh-huh.

Now far be it for me to start any rumors about the gay, but my gaydar exploded.

Edison ought to be ashamed for working for an organization that demonizes gays, but then again, misery loves company.
